Mazaalai – this simple Mongolian word means Gobi Bear who inhabits in the Gobi desert of Mongolia. No other place on the entire Earth is home for this rare species of Bear. Its scientific name is Ursus Arctos Gobiensis. It is listed in the Red Book of Mongolia with a status of VERY RARE. They were found in the Desert of Aj Bogd of West Altai mountain ranges in early 1920s. Mazaalai is near extinction & globally threatened bear. They are distributed in Mt. Tost&Nemegt; Khairkhan, Zakhui&Zarman oasis; Segs Tsagaan Bogd, Shar Khuls&Tumurtei Khorkh ranges; Mt. Atas&Inges; Zaraa&Baruun Khar in the trans Altai Gobi Desert.
Day 1. Ulaanbaatar. Our team will meet you at the “Chinggis Khaan” international airport and transfer to the hotel in the city. After rest, we will start our city tour starting from the Chingiss Square. Then we will visit Zaisan Hill that provides wide open view of the Ulaanbaatar. Visit in the Museum of National History. We will end our day with traditional. Overnight in the hotel.
Day 02. Central Gobi 250 kms (ger camp) After breakfast, we will drive to the Baga Gazriin Chuluu. This 1750m high basalt and granite rock formation is beautifully located in the middle of nowhere. This rock mountain contains ruins of Buddhist meditation temple that belonged to the 17th century. We will have some scenic photo opportunities and continue drive to the Sum Huh Burd, a small island with ruins of ancient temple and loads of birds.
Day 03. Bayanzag 450 kms (ger camp) After breakfast we will drive to the Bayanzag known as a Flamming Cliffs to the world. Ancient red rock creation, Bayanzag formed 60-70 million years ago, famous as Flamming Cliifs named by Roy Andrew Chapman, an American explorer who visited Mongolia in 1920s. The striking red Bayanzag cliffs have dinosaur fossils, eggs and bones all over the place and neighbored by bushy Saxual tree forests.
Day 04. Yol Valley – South Gobi 80 kms (ger camp) After breakfast we will drive to the majestic Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park where we will enjoy incredible “Yol Valley”. During the summer rainfall water runs from the top of the walls forming waterfalls. We will trek along the canyon and may have an opportunity to glimpse rarely found wild sheep Argali, mountain goat Ibex and Yol Lammergeier.
Day 05. Khongoriin Els 200 kms (ger camp) We will drive to the Khongor els sand dunes. In the afternoon we will see marvelous Khongoriin Els dunes that stretch for an extraordinary 180 kms as wide as 7-20km. The sound of masses of wind-blown sand can be heard from the long distance. This sound is so melodic so 200m high sand dunes called as “Singing Dunes”. There is an oasis called Khongor River with stunning greenery in the summer.
Day 06-07. Khermen Tsav 250 kms (tents) After breakfast, we will drive to the Khermen Tsav. On the way, we will visit Naran daats, small spring on the top of the hill. In the afternoon we will arrive in the Khermen Tsav so called Kingdom of Dinosaurs an red looking canyon found deep in the spirits of desert that stretches for 15-20 km. Trekking along the canyon and feel the spirits. Overnight in a tent in the canyon.
Day 08. Goviin Temee 250 kms ger camp Drive to Goviin Temee ger camp in Bayankhongor province. Overnight in ger camp.
Day 09. Nogoon Tsav 210 kms (tents) Drive to Nogoon Tsav via Bayangobi soum. Bayangobi offers some intriguing desert sites. Overnight in tent.
Day 10. Ekhiin Gol 150 kms (tents) Ekhiin River is the largest oasis in the southern Bayankhongor. It is the ranger headquarters of one of the largest and most remote natural reserves in the world, the Great Gobi Protected Area. There are sandy and tree-lined canyons. At the end of the platform, you will see waterfall dropped 20 meters to another rock pool.
Day 11. Segs Tsagaan Bogd 100 kms (tents) Segs Tsagaan Bogd Uul is one of the most sacred mountains of the central Gobi Desert. Located seventeen miles north of the Chinese border, the mountain can be seen from much of southern Bayankhongor province and would have served as a beacon for the several of the old caravan routes passing through this area, including the Shar Zam to Beijing, routes south to Lhasa, in Tibet, and west to Urumqi, in Xinjiang, China. On the northern flank of the mountain is a famous spring, Suujin Bulag.
Day 12. Suman Khad 250 kms (tents) After a full day we will reach Suman Nuruu for overnight.
Day 13. Eej Khairkhan 170 kms (tents) Eej Khairkhan Mountain is a sacred mountain of the western Gobi. For centuries, Eej Khairkhan Mountain was reserved and worshipped by the locals in their belief that mountain blessed families with children.
Day 14. Burkhan Buudai 90 kms (tents) Burkhan Buudal Mountain is a snow capped mountain home to many wild animals.
Day 15. Altai 70 kms Gobi Altai is the second largest aimag in Mongolia. Gobi Altai is famous for its oasis, and contains some remote section of several national parks.
Day 16. Fly to Ulaanbaatar. Visit Gandan Monastery and Bogd Khaan Winter Palace. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel.
